Roof Cost Calculator for Phoenix, AZ
Want a rough idea of what a new shingle or tile roof might cost in Phoenix, AZ? Answer four questions about your home, and the calculator estimates the roof's surface area and prices it with published Arizona per-square-foot ranges. Treat the result as a figure for your budget, not a price.
How the Tool Decides
Before you start. The calculator works from your floor area. It divides that by the number of stories to find the footprint, then multiplies by 1.12 for a walkable pitch or 1.30 for a steep one, and by 1.10 for the overhangs. Round that to the nearest 10 sq ft and you have the estimated roof surface. That surface is priced at a low rate and a high rate, and each total is rounded to the nearest $100.
Shingle jobs use $4.35 to $6.90 per sq ft. Full tile replacement uses $9.20 to $14.60. Both bands were set from the published rows below, with room at the top for tear-off and steeper roofs.
| Cost row | Figure | Source (year) |
|---|---|---|
| Arizona asphalt shingles, per sq ft | about $4.38 | This Old House (2026) |
| Arizona concrete tile, installed per sq ft | about $9.65 (S-profile) to $12.05 (premium) | Roof Observations (2026) |
| Arizona clay or tile roofing, per sq ft | about $14.84 | This Old House (2026) |
Flat and foam roofs aren't in the calculator; the roofer prices those after a look. Keeping your tiles? A lift and relay has run about $3 to $5 per sq ft in published national figures (Fixr, 2025). Same-material work needs no City of Phoenix building permit, but a switch to tile, or a home in a historic district, means checking before the work starts.
Using What You Learned
Does the range look workable? Then a real measurement comes next. Send us a request and we set up the visit; a local roofing pro checks the roof, the decking and the attic, then writes the price down. There is no cost to send a request.
